Healing Modalities

Here are a few modalities, which inform my work and my life philosophy. I draw from one or more of these healing practices to help my clients make the transformation they seek.

Yoga

Child's Pose

My healing began when I found Yoga. The word, Yoga in Sanskrit means "to yoke", "to join", to "unite'. It is about uniting our individual mind, body, and soul to the Universal Consciousness, so that we can live in our wholeness, in alignment and harmony with Life itself. When we are able to understand and experience this oneness with the Universe, we are living Yoga.

For many, Yoga is a form of physical activity or stretching exercise. The physical form of Yoga certainly has numerous proven benefits in their own right. Having said this, Yoga can be so much more. In fact, Yoga, to me, is a way of life. The physical practice and the practice of meditation are the tools of Yoga to help us get in touch with our innermost authentic selves.

The beauty of Yoga, whether you are focusing on the physical practice or meditation, is that you can decide to step on the path anytime, wherever you are in life; it is always taken at your own pace; and it will reveal to you all the answers you seek, as long as you are truly curious to learn.

iRest

Integrative Restoration Yoga Nidra Meditation

In my practice, I offer Integrative Restoration (iRest®) Yoga Nidra Meditation. This is an adaptation of a meditation practice based in the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra made accessible for modern day living. iRest is a trauma-sensitive practice designed to bring the healing benefits of yogic teachings and meditation to a wide variety of people.

Research has shown iRest to be effective used for:

  • Reducing stress and anxiety

  • Managing chronic pain

  • Improving sleep

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Depression

  • Addiction

iRest teaches us that the suffering we perceive in our lives arises when we desire our circumstances to be different from what they are. It informs us on how we can overcome the conflicts and suffering by helping us to discover the unshakable peace, strength, and well-being within each and every one of us. It enables us to meet each moment of our lives with love, compassion, understanding and resilience, no matter how challenging or difficult our situation. If we were to imagine ourselves as the vast ocean, deep down, we will always find calm and stillness, even as the movements of the waves continue to change and shift on the surface. iRest helps us to connect with this stillness deep within ourselves.

Reiki

Reiki Treatment

Reiki is a Japanese technique based in the subtle energy system of the body. As with many Eastern traditions, it focuses on balancing the life force energy which flows through all living beings. It is believed that this energy is what gives us life. The free flow of this energy is essential to our health and happiness as the subtle energy system is deeply connected to our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Reiki practitioners serve as channels for the Universal energy, which is transferred to the recipient through the practitioner's palms. This has also been referred to as palm healing or hands-on healing. Having said this, as the subtle energy system has no physical boundaries, Reiki healing can be effectively sent from a distance.

Reiki is a natural, gentle, yet powerful method of healing and has been shown to be effective in alleviating stress, anxiety, and pain; reducing cardiovascular risks; improving fatigue, mood, and insomnia; reducing depression; and improving quality of life for palliative and cancer patients. Reiki can also be used to enhance or support other medical or therapeutic modalities in relieving side effects, pain, and promoting recovery.

The experience of a Reiki treatment will be unique to each individual. Some people describe a feeling of warmth, tingling, or a glowing radiance flowing through and around their bodies. Some people may not feel any sensations during the session but report to feeling more relaxed, calm, and at ease afterwards. Reiki treats the whole person (mind, body, soul), and many have found a sense of peace, security, and well-being from receiving regular Reiki treatments.

Holistic Nutrition

This is a whole-person approach to nutrition. Based on the concept that we are all interconnected, and that we cannot separate our physical, psychological, and spiritual health, nutrition is more than just the food that we put into our bodies. The idea of interconnectedness shows us that each of our body systems are intricately interwoven into all other body systems. For instance, our diet affects our stress, which could affect our sleep, which in turn alters our energy and metabolism, which could affect the way we digest our food, impacts on our ability to assimilate precious nutrients, which influences our immune system, which can alter our mood and emotions, and can lead back to how we make our food choices and hence, our diet! Adding to this, Nature's designs of biological pathways are usually bi-directional - say, if sleep affects digestion, digestion also affects sleep. You can see how this web of connection can get complicated quickly! Fortunately, our bodies are innately intelligent and know exactly what we need and what to do, as long as we give them the right tools and help remove the obstacles we put there in the first place. My approach in holistic nutrition is simple - to support your body by giving it what it needs to thrive and to remove what is hurting or hindering its ability to heal, and I do this by transforming the way you eat, think, and live.
